GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Lions lost to UNC Greensboro in a men's basketball exhibition game 108-56 Monday night at the Greensboro Coliseum. Luke Van-Rijn was 4-6 from behind the arc in the contest.
Van-Rijn led Mars Hill with 14 points and six rebounds. Tavion Trimble followed with eight points while Vernon Jackson added six points. The Lions connected on only 33.9% (19-56) of their field goals in the contest.
Marvin Smith led the Spartans with 23 points while Francis Alonzo tallied 16 points. UNCG hit 62.7% (37-59) of their field goals including knocking down 18-27 (66.7%) shots from three-point range. The Spartans edged the Lions on the boards, 36-31.
Alonso hit a three-pointer 17 seconds into the game and the Spartans would lead wire-to-wire. UNCG built a 33-point lead in the first half after Diante Baldwin hit a pair of free throws with 4:53 left in the opening period. The Spartans took a 58-25 advantage into the locker room at the intermission.
Mars Hill would not get any closer in the second half. UNCG continued their hot shooting in the second frame to obtain the 108-56 victory.
Mars Hill will play at SAC foe Catawba on Saturday, December 10. Game time in Goodman Gym is set for 4 p.m.
