2016-17 Swimming Recruiting Class

MARS HILL, N.C. - Head Swimming Coach Teddy Guyer has announced the 2016-17 recuiting class. Listed below are the student-athletes that have committed to Mars Hill University for the upcoming academic year.

 

Salvatore Amideo
Amideo is from Crotone, Italy, where he attended Filolao High School and also swam at Kroton Nuoto under coach Roberto Fantasia. He has numerous regional titles in Italy and has never lost a breast stroke event at the regional level. He has also competed in national and international competitions for many years. Salvatore is the son of Felice Amideo and Fortunata Salvemini.

   

Chad Bateson
Bateson is from Myrtle Beach, S.C., where he attended Socastee High School and swam under Coach Jay Preslar.  He also swam for the Riptides Racing Team under Coach Jimmy Smith.  He was a six-time All-Region team member, Region Champion and finalist at SCHSL championships in multiple events all four years of high school.  He served as his high school team captain his senior year and was a member of the 400 medley relay record-holding team.  He is a ESSZ Senior Sectional Qualifying in several events and was also a finalist at SC Short Course State Championships. He is a two-time AFJROTC Male Athlete of the Year Award recipient at Socastee High School. Chad is the son of Chip and Mara Bateson.

 

Salliemae Blethroad
Blethroad is from New Port Richey, Fla., where she attended Gulf High School.  She swam at Pipeline Swimming under Coach Devin Murphy, along with Renee, and Patrick Piper.  She is a regional and state qualifier. Salliemae is the daughter of Hal and Dandy Blethroad.

 

Dutch Danskin
Danskin is from Norcross, Ga., where he attended Norcross High School and swam for Emily Mercier. He has swam for YMCA Fowler Fins under coach Mark Schremmer and The Spalding Corners Sharks under Coach Willie Hildebrand.  He is a two-time high school state qualifier, a one-time senior state qualifier, a one-time senior sectional qualifier, GRPA Class “A” State Champion in the 100 free, recipient of the Spirit Award for NHS swimming and the Coach’s Award for NHS Swimming. Dutch is the son of Mick and Tricia Danskin.

 

Maureen Fitts
Fitts is from Cary, N.C., where she attended GRACE Christian School in Raleigh.  She swam for Coaches John & Nancy Potok.  She also swam for New WAVE year-round swim team with Coach Ivo Benov.  Maureen was a five-time state qualifier. She was the recipient of the ACSI Distinguished Christian High School Student Award for her outstanding achievement in Athletics and Fine Arts.  She has also won various fine arts competitions at the city, state and regional levels. Maureen is the Daughter of Gregory and Pascale Fitts.

 

Alex Hightower
Hightower is from Titusville, Fla., where he attended Titusville High School and swam for Natasha Kramer. He was a district and regional qualifier and a two-time Scholar Athlete and an honor student. Alex is the son of Kyle and Pam Hightower.

 

Danielle  Kirkman
Kirkman is from Dobson, N.C. where she attended Surry Central High School.  She was coached by Dara Kowalcik. She has also been a member of the Dobson Dolphins Swim Team also coached by Dara and Lyncee Kowalcik. Danielle has qualified for Regionals all three years.  Outside of the pool, she is a member of Rho Kappa and the National English Honor Society. Danielle is the daughter of David and Linda Kirkman.

 

Daniel  Lammons
Lammons is from Lawrenceville, Ga., where he attended Collins Hill High School and swam for Coaches Jenny Weaver and Paul Callis.  He also swam for Swim Atlanta under the direction of Coaches Bradley and Scott Davis.  He has lettered in swimming all four years of high school and is a four-time county qualifier and two-time state qualifier as well as acting as his high schools team captain.  Daniel is the son of Gary and Melana Lammons.

 

Adrian Acero Lozano
Lozano is from Bogota, Colombia, where he attended West River Academy.  He swam for Endurance team under Arturo Roa, Victor Mario, & Maya Espinosa.  He has qualified for all national championships from 2010-2016, where he is a medalist and national champion in the 50, 100, and 200-meter breaststroke. Adrian is the son of Adrian Acero Acosta and Cathiana Lazano Mahecha.

 

Tori Rigsby
Rigsby is from Asheville, N.C., where she swam for Erwin High School team under Coach Nicole Wells and Bethany Moffitt. She was a regional qualifier and a ROTC Member. Tori is the daughter of Victor and Amanda Rigsby.

 

Katelyn Southard
Southard is from Elkin, N.C., where she attended Surry Central High School and swam for Coach Dara Kowalcik.  She also swam for North Piedmont Aquatic Club (PAC) under Coach Leah Tunstall.  She is a Regional and State Qualifier, and was named Conference Swimmer of the Year twice, as well as being named MVP for two years.  She was also named All-Conference in individual events as well as relays all four years and a senior championship qualifier. She is also an honor student and belongs to numerous honor societies.  Katelyn is the daughter of Steve and Sally Southard.

 

Mara Trowbridge
Trowbridge is from Pfafftown, N.C., where she swam for Reagan High School team under Coach Ryan Michel.  She also swam for RipTYDE where she was coached by Cameron McKinney.  She is a four-time regional qualifier and two-time state qualifier.  Beyond the pool she has maintained Honor Roll all four years and placed fifth in SkillsUSA in North Carolina. Mara is the daughter of Chuck and Jean Trowbridge.
