Zach Honeycutt was promoted to head coach in the summer of 2022.

Honeycutt enters his 11th season coaching and eighth back at MHU. 2025 is his fourth year as head coach. Honeycutt has coached 10 players that have been drafted (Frasier Ellard LHP, and Dustin Revis RHP). He has nine wins in three years as head coach against Top 25 ranked opponents (‘23 Lee, Catawba, Wingate; ‘24 Young Harris x2, Lee; ’25 Catawba, Young Harris, Carson-Newman). He has orchestrated renovations and acquisition of funds via fundraising for various stadium upgrades including home bullpen renovation project, multiple locker room upgrades, addition of synthetic turf infield, addition of TrackMan Stadium Unit, and building of the Jacob Legleiter Indoor Player Development Facility.

As an assistant coach, MHU went back-to-back postseason appearances (2021 & 2022 seasons) for the first time since 09’&10’ seasons. The team finished the 2022 season with the second most strikeouts in school history (324) at that time, 7.36 strikeouts per 9 innings pitched (3rd in school history), and set a new program record with a fielding percentage of .967. 

In 2023, the team posted the second most strikeouts in school history once more with 339. Also had one of the top offensive players in the nation in Jordan Lathe who set multiple school records. His 23 doubles were the second most in school history, 82 hits were the 5th most in a single season, and his 219 at bats posted a new single season mark in program history. Lathe finished his career tied with the program record in most doubles with 50 and second most stolen bases in program history with 55 stolen bases over a career. Jordan Lathe and Zach Weaver were both all-conference members, with Zach Weaver hitting 15 homeruns.

In 2024, again finished with a top 5 school record with 303 strikeouts, finishing 4th most in program history. 2024 season achieved the most wins in a season since the 2017 - 2018 season. Saw senior Brain Smart pitch it at a 3.96 ERA in 36.1 innings and opp. batted .241 against him. He went 1-1 in 6 starts. Senior Zach Weaver set a new program record with 48 career home runs, while hitting .269, 14 HR, nine doubles, and two triples.

In the 2025 season, again posted a top 4 strikeouts in a season with 303 strikeouts as a staff. Had Terrick Bumgarner was all conference with .299 batting average, eight home runs, eight doubles, and nine stolen bases. Chapel Matson was First Team All-Defense with a .998 fielding percentage. Brennan Williams also had a break out year. Pitching it at a 4.48 ERA, with 54 strikeouts in 68.1 innings pitched on the year, seven complete games, and two shutouts.
