Five Lions Named All-Super Region Two
BROOKFIELD, Ill.-- Five members of the Mars Hill football team were named to the 2012 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-Super Region Two team, which was released Monday.
Defensive Lineman Mam Nyang was selected to the First Team Defense. Wide receiver Dimitri Holmes, running back Shaikel Davis and defensive end Troy Harris were each named to the second team. Offensive lineman Nick Allison was a third-team selection. The team is selected by the Don Hansen Football Committee.
Nyang tied for third in the South Atlantic Conference with five sacks and helped anchor the Lions defensive line. The First Team All-SAC honoree made 67 tackles, including 7.5 for loss, and forced two fumbles on the season.
Holmes and Davis were each named to the Don Hansen second-team offense. Holmes was a First Team All-SAC performer after recording 71 catches for 992 yards and eight touchdowns. Davis also was a First Team All-SAC performer and earned All-Southeast Region honors from Daktronics. He led all SAC performers during the regular season in rushing attempts (236), yards (1,173) and yards per game (117.3).
Harris was named to the second-team Don Hansen defense after being named the SAC's Co-Defensive Player of the Year. Harris was a disruptive force on the Lions' defensive line all season, recording 84 tackles, 12 tackles-for-loss and five sacks. He previously earned All-Southeast Region honors from Daktronics.
Allison was named to the third-team Don Hansen offense. The sophomore started six games and was part of an offensive line that helped produce 158 rushing yards per contest. He also received All-Southeast Region honors from Daktronics.
The Don Hansen team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen started and published Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selection NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988. Don Hansen's Football Gazette began selecting Division II All-Region squads in 2003.
