LOUISVILLE, K.Y. - The Mars Hill men's cross country team finished 59th of 100 teams overall at the extremely competitive Live in Lou Classic race, hosted at E.P Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday morning over the 8k race distance.
In their first overnight trip of the season, the Mars Hill men's cross country team faced their strongest competition and largest field of racers with over hundreds of runners. Coming out on top for the Lions was Sean Sanchez in 27:04 followed closely by Brandon McNulty in 27:07. Eli Taylor, Matthew O'Connor, and Braxton Cummings rounded out the top five scoring runners for the Lions. The Lions were once again led by four freshman runners in the top five.
Thoughts from Coach Benge:
"After over a week with limited team practice due to the hurricane, it was great for the team to be able to travel and compete this weekend and dust off the rust. The men got out a bit slowly in the large and competitive field, which led to some slower times, but they learned some valuable lessons on racing and moved up very well throughout the 8k race. All of this is helpful as we approach championship season."
