Mars Hill drops game three of series versus North Georgia
The Mars Hill baseball team (2-7) was defeated by North Georgia (5-1) by a score of 12-4 Sunday afternoon to close out their three-game series.
DAHLONGEGA, Ga. - The Mars Hill baseball team (2-7) was defeated by North Georgia (5-1) by a score of 12-4 Sunday afternoon to close out their three-game series.
At the end of the second inning, the Lions led 2-0, highlighted by Chapel Matson's RBI single. North Georgia would go on to score six runs through the third and fourth innings highlighted by Kaleb Freeman's two-run single to right center in the bottom of the third.
In the top of the fifth, Zach Weaver plated Scottie Lee with a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to three. Tim Conway and Nik Levensteins each recorded RBI doubles in the bottom of the frame to build the Nighthawk lead up to 8-3.
Matson picked up his second RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly in the top of the eight, scoring Lee. Following Crews Taylor's RBI single in the bottom of the eighth, Conway picked up his fourth RBI of the day with a three-run home run.
Conway led all players with four RBI followed by Kaleb Freeman's three. Taylor led all players with three hits. Matson led the Lions with two RBI.
Jay Pendley picked up the win, allowing three runs on three hits in five innings pitched, striking out four. Barrett Williams was credited with the loss, allowing three runs on two hits in 2.1 innings pitched.
The Lions return to the field on Tuesday, February 15 when they face Erskine. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
