MHU lands six on All-SAC teams
Dexter Fitzpatrick and Tristan Rankin named All-SAC Defensive Team selections.
ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Mars Hill football team landed six players on the 2024 All-South Atlantic Conference Football teams, as released by the league Thursday afternoon.
On the All-SAC Defense team were Dexter Fitzpatrick and Tristan Rankin.
Fitzpatrick, a senior linebacker from LaGrange, Georgia, was second in the conference in tackles per game, averaging 9.8. He ranked eighth in the league with 4.5 sacks. He totalled 88 tackles in nine games for Mars Hill this season.
Rankin, a senior cornerback from Hickory, North Carolina, picked off five passes and returned one for a touchdown this year. He placed second in the league with five interceptions. A SAC Defensive Player of the Week recipient, Rankin added 31 tackles on the year, as well as a fumble recovery. He ends his career with the Lions as the career-leader in interceptions with 18.
Divisionally, Mars Hill placed three on the All-Mountain Offense squad as JR Martin, Jon Gullette, and Beau DeBerry were tabbed there for the second straight year.
Martin, the senior quarterback, set career-highs with 11 rushing touchdowns, 2,112 passing yards on 155 completions.
Gullette, a sophomore running back, ran for 534 yards on 130 carries, averaging nearly 60 yards per game. He ended the season with a three touchdown performance against Limestone, bringing his season total to six.
DeBerry, a senior tight end, led the team with 38 receptions, averaging 4.2 per game. He was second on the team with 406 receiving yards.
Sakarri Morrison landed on the All-Mountain Defense team.
Morrison, a junior defensive lineman from Charlotte, North Carolina, was third on the team with 43 tackles, averaging just under five per game. He recorded 4.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks on the season.
