Lions dropped by Emmanuel on road
FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Mars Hill flag football team was defeated by Emmanuel by a score of 42-12 Saturday afternoon.
Emmanuel led 13-0 after the first quarter. In the second, Cecelia Hale connected with Alina Mueller for a 16-yard touchdown pass for the Lions' first touchdown of the day.
In the fourth, Mary Lou Tsunis was on the receiving end of the Lions' second score.
Hale went 23-of-42 for 175 yards and two touchdowns. She added 14 yards on the ground.
Tsunis led the Lions with 58 receiving yards on three catches followed by 34 from Isabella Gray on six receptions. Selma Vassdal led the Lions with seven catches. Vassdal punted four times in the game, averaging nearly 31 yards per attempt with a long of 41 yards.
Saga Karlsson Rowa led the team with 19 rushing yards.
Defensively, Hale led the team, along with Karlsson Rowa, with 5.5 tackles. Tsunis hauled in one interception, returning it for 30 yards.
The Lions open their home slate versus Cumberland and Winston-Salem State on Friday, March 20. The first contest is set for 3 p.m. inside the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.
