McArthur's Goal Lifts Lions to Double-Overtime Victory
HICKORY, N.C.-- Christian McArthur's goal in double-overtime sent Mars Hill's men's soccer team home with a 1-0 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne in South Atlantic Conference action Wednesday evening at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex.
HICKORY, N.C.-- Christian McArthur's goal in double-overtime sent Mars Hill's men's soccer team home with a 1-0 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne in South Atlantic Conference action Wednesday evening at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex.
McArthur scored on a one-touch off a corner by Jack Donaldson at the 7:51 mark of the second-overtime to give the Lions' their second-straight win. The goal was the freshman defender's second of the season. Donaldson picked up his third assist of the season on the goal. Mars Hill improved to 4-5 overall and 4-2 in SAC matches, good enough for second in the league. Lenoir-Rhyne is now 6-5 overall and 2-3 in conference matches.
Chris Mitchell went the distance in net for MHU and made eight saves. The sophomore has recorded a shutout in two of his four starts this season.
Stefan Dill of Lenoir-Rhyne matched Mitchell's performance until McArthur's goal. Dill made four saves.
Mars Hill outshot the Bears 20-16 and held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Lions will look to pick up their third-consecutive victory when they host SAC-newcomer Coker this Saturday, Oct. 12 at 4:30 p.m. in Meares Stadium.
