GREENEVILLE, T.N. - The Mars Hill men's cross country team finished 8th of 12 teams at the South Atlantic Conference Cross Country Championship on Saturday. The race was hosted at Kinser Park Golf Course in Greeneville, Tennessee on Saturday morning over the 8k race distance.
On a very hilly and tough cross country race course, the Lions were led by sophomore Sean Sanchez, who finished in 30th place. Justin Owens and freshman DJ Chadwell followed in 39th and 44th place. Sophomores Eli Taylor and Matthew O'Connor wrapped up team scoring in 54th and 59th place.
Thoughts from Coach Benge:
"Everyone gave strong efforts today, but the results just didn't quite go our way. It was very tight scoring with 18 points between the 4th and 8th place teams and we came out on the wrong side of that scoring today. The guys gave solid efforts and will look to finish the season strong with a 10k at regionals! It's been 8 years since Mars Hill was battling for 5th place in the conference, so that is a positive to take away from the race."
