Mars Hill rallies in second half, downs P.R. Mayaguez
The Mars Hill women's basketball team (6-6) defeated P.R. Mayaguez (0-8) by a score of 55-54 to conclude the Puerto Rico Classic.
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (6-6) defeated P.R. Mayaguez (0-8) by a score of 55-54 to conclude the Puerto Rico Classic.
Mars Hill outscored Mayaguez 29-14 in the second half to complete their comeback. In the third, Maddie Gillie led the team with eight points while Tateyoina Harris led all players with five rebounds.
In the fourth, the duo of Gillie and Elyseia Brown each netted four points to lead the Lions to victory.
Mars Hill trailed 16-10 after the first 10 minutes of play. Harris recorded seven of the Lions' 10 points.
Mayaguez scored a game-high 24 points in the second as Debora Lisboa led the team with six points. They shot 56 percent from the floor. Brown led all players with 10 points in the frame.
Brown led all players with 17 points and five steals while adding six rebounds. Harris ended the day with 14 points and 15 points for the double-double while Gillie added 12 points.
Mars Hill returns to action on Wednesday, January 3 on the road when they take on UVA Wise. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
