Goddard leads four Lions to All-SAC selections, Jimenez named to All-Freshman team
Mars Hill volleyball players Sarah Goddard, Jana Cuk, Laela Jimenez, and Jordan Schmucker were all named to All-South Atlantic Conference teams, as released by the league Wednesday afternoon.
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Four Mars Hill volleyball players were named to All-South Atlantic Conference teams, as announced by the league Wednesday afternoon.
Graduate outside hitter Sarah Goddard was an All-SAC First Team selection for the first time in her illustrious career. The Las Vegas, Nevada native was second in the conference in kills (352) and kills per set (3.63), both categories leading the Lions. She added 293 digs and 55 blocks on the year.
Goddard sits third in Mars Hill program history with 1,329 kills. She amassed 1,183 digs, 207 blocks, 68 aces, and 62 assists in her five-year career.
Graduate middle hitter Jana Cuk was named to the All-SAC Second Team for the second season of her three-year stint with Mars Hill. The Valjevo, Serbia native placed fourth in the conference in kills (301), averaging 3.04 per set while adding a team-high 78 blocks.
She wraps up her career at Mars Hill with 728 kills, 194 blocks, 66 aces, and a hitting percentage of .295.
Freshman libero Laela Jimenez was slotted to the All-SAC Second Team. She was also named to the All-SAC Freshman Team. The Naples, Florida native led the SAC in digs (543), 100 digs more than the next closest player. She also led the SAC in digs per set (5.72), which was best for fifth in the country.
In her debut season, Jimenez added 76 assists and 12 aces, starting all 27 matches. She recorded a career-high 38 digs in the SAC Quarterfinal match versus Anderson.
Senior setter Jordan Schmucker was placed on the All-SAC Third Team. The Myakka City, Florida native led the SAC with 927 assists and averaged 9.56 a set, good for fourth in the conference. She posted 13 40+ assist efforts this season, including a season-high 49 on the road versus Emory & Henry.
Schmucker led the team with 19 double-doubles that included a run of nine straight games. She sits third all-time in MHU history with 2,713 assists and holds the fifth best season performance with last year's 1,132 in 34 matches.
The Lions were tabbed as statistical champions in digs per set, leading the league with 19.34 and placing third in the country.
