MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team fell to Belmont Abbey, 13–7, in a non-conference matchup Tuesday afternoon.
Belmont Abbey, now 30–14, used a five-run third inning and a six-run sixth to take control, capitalizing on timely hitting and a few defensive miscues by the Lions. However, Mars Hill didn't fold. The Lions responded with a three-run fifth inning to spark some momentum, followed by two more runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to keep the pressure on.
Chapel Matson led the way offensively for Mars Hill, going 2-for-5 with an RBI single and a solo home run. Max LaLime continued his consistent production with a 3-for-4 day at the plate, adding an RBI and a stolen base. Jackson Jones chipped in with a pair of hits, including an RBI single and a run scored. Dawson Anderson added two RBIs of his own, while Peyton Starkey and Carter Potts also recorded hits.
Mars Hill, now 12–32 overall, returns to South Atlantic Conference play on Friday, April 18, when they host Emory & Henry at 2 p.m. at Henderson Field.
