Men’s Basketball Falls at Carson-Newman
Thiam records double-double
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Lions' men's basketball team lost to Carson-Newman in Holt Fieldhouse Wednesday night, 99-73. Khouraichi Thiam led MHC with a double-double scoring 11 points and pulling down 13 rebounds.
Following Thiam was Sammy Emile who scored 21 points and had four assists. Terrell Harris and Austin Patton added 11 points apiece. Cody King rounded out the double-figure scorers for the Lions (3-13, 1-6 SAC) with 10 points.
Antoine Davis led Carson-Newman (10-7, 3-4 SAC) with 18 points followed by Ishmael Sanders with 16. Corbin Jackson scored 10 points and pulled down a team high nine rebounds in the game. The Lions edged the Eagles in rebounding, 44-43. The Eagles hit 55.4% (36-65) of their field goals as opposed to the Lions who converted on 32.3% (20-62) of their attempts. The Lions struggled in long-range shooting hitting only 5-26 (19.2%) from behind the arc.
Jackson hit a layup 13 seconds into the contest and the Eagles would never trail. C-N led by as many as 18 points in the first half as they went into the locker room at the intermission ahead 53-35.
The second half belonged to the Eagles. C-N led by as many as 36 points (78-42) with 13:02 left in the game after Kevin Hare connected on a pair of shots at the charity stripe. MHC cut the Eagles lead to 21 points at the 3:30 mark after Emile hit a 3-pointer but that was as close as the Lions would get.
Mars Hill will host SAC foe Tusculum College on Saturday afternoon. Game time in Stanford Arena is set for 4 p.m.
