Emile Named Honorable Mention All-American
MARS HILL, N.C.-Mars Hill men's basketball team member Sammy Emile was named to the Division II Bulletin Honorable Mention All-American Team.
Emile led all of Division II in scoring, averaging an even 25 points per contest. He scored 30 or more points eight times on the season. The senior also averaged 5.8 rebounds per game and dished out 3.2 assists per contest. Emile shot 44.4 percent from the floor (199-of-448) and hit 77.9 percent of his free throws (239-of-307).
Emile had previously been named to the Daktronics Division II Men's Basketball All-American Team and All-Southeast Region Team. He was also named to the All-SAC first team.
Alaska Anchorage's Taylor Rhode was named the Division II Bulletin Player of the Year. Rhode was the Great Northwest Conference Player of the Year. He averaged 19.8 points on 62.7 percent shooting, and added 8.0 rebounds per contest. Rhode had nine double-doubles on the season.
Rhode was joined on the first team by James Ellisor of Bemidji State, Jet Chang of BYU-Hawaii, Alabama Huntsville senior Josh Magette and Bellarmine's Braydon Hobbs.
Other South Atlantic Conference student-athletes honored by the Division II Bulletin were Denzail Jones of Anderson (Second Team) and LMU senior Desmond Johnson (Honorable Mention).
The Division II Bulletin has named a Player of the Year and All-American Teams every season since 1991-92.
