Men's Basketball Loses at Carson-Newman
Mars Hill lost to Carson-Newman 94-54 on the road in South Atlantic Conference men’s basketball action Wednesday night at Holt Fieldhouse.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Mars Hill lost to Carson-Newman 94-54 on the road in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action Wednesday night at Holt Fieldhouse. The Lions fell to 2-10 overall and 0-7 in the conference. The Eagles improved to 8-3 on the season and 5-2 in the SAC.
Amin Abuhawwas came off the bench to lead MHU, scoring 11 points. Carter Wright added eight points and five rebounds.
Carson-Newman was led by Ishmael Sanders who scored 28 points, hitting five 3-pointers. Antoine Davis followed scoring 17 points and pulling down six boards. C-N scored 40 points in the paint, 17 off turnovers and 18 second-chance points.
Sanders hit a layup 29 seconds into the game and the Eagles would never trail again. Hitting 50% (18-36) from the floor in the first half led to MHU trailing 49-22 at the intermission.
The second half belonged to the Eagles. Mars Hill could not manage a comeback in the second frame. The Lions connected on only 29.6% (21-71) from the floor, 28.6% (8-28) from 3-point range and 50% (4-8) from the foul line.
The Lions will face Newberry on the road on Saturday. Game time is slated for a 4 p.m. start.
