Lacrosse Wins on the Road against Catawba
SALISBURY, N.C. - Eric Benesch scored seven goals to lead Mars Hill past host Catawba 12-5 in Deep South Conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday night at Shuford Stadium. The Lions improve to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in the DSC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 7-2 and 3-1.
Benesch scored the first four goals for Mars Hill as the Lions jumped out to a 4-1 lead after a quarter. Tyler Farmer had two of the second quarter goals for Mars Hill to help the Lions to a 9-2 edge at the break. Catawba's two goals came from freshman Trevor Sieracki.
Catawba scored the first two goals of the second half to get within 9-4, but Benesch scored twice in a three-goal run by the Lions for a 12-4 advantage. Mars Hill held a 36-26 edge in shots. Dylan Price had 14 saves for the Lions, while Michael Pecchia stopped 13 shots for Catawba.
MHC edged Catawba in face-offs, 11-10. The Lions won the ground ball battle, 39-27. In the first half, MHC out shot Catawba, 25-12.
The Lions will host Deep South Conference rival St. Leo on April 1, in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.
