Lions down Piedmont in first meet of 2023
The Mars Hill men's swim team defeated Piedmont College by a score of 107-96 Saturday afternoon inside Harrell Pool.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's swim team defeated Piedmont College by a score of 107-96 Saturday afternoon inside Harrell Pool.
The Lions' quartet of Eduardo Motta, Matthew Goslin, Thomas Gibson, and Raul Briceno took the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:43.20, securing 11 points for the team.
Briceno, in the 1,000 yard freestyle, won with a time of 9:55.49 to earn nine points for Mars Hill. He also claimed victory and an additional nine points in the 500 yard freestyle, turning in a time of 4:50.12.
Gibson won the 50 yard freestyle with a mark of 21.68 and the 100 yard butterfly in 54.35, garnering a total of 18 points for the Lions.
Goslin took first in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:07.68 and the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.15, also notching 18 points to the Lions' total.
Samuel Brooks won the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.22 while Motta claimed victory in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 57.07.

The Lions return to the pool on Saturday, January 14 when they take on Emory & Henry on the road. The first event is set for a 2 p.m. start.
