School, personal records set at Montreat Invitational
The Mars Hill men’s outdoor track & field team competed this past Friday and Saturday at the Montreat Invitational hosted by Montreat College.
BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's outdoor track & field team competed this past Friday and Saturday at the Montreat Invitational hosted by Montreat College.
Throwing Events:
Hammer
Lee Prescott cemented his name in the MHU T&F record book, setting a new school record in the hammer with a throw of 45.00m (147' 8"). Prescott placed 4th overall in the event, earning five points towards the men's team total.
Javelin
Justus Shelton, Brandon Bailes, and Andrew Hensley all threw javelin for the team. Shelton and Bailes both earned a trip to the finals. Shelton placed 2nd overall, throwing a personal best 50.45m. Bailes finished 8th with a season best 42.28m while Hensley placed 12th overall.
Shot Put
Prescott, Ben Goodlett, and Ashtin Gainey competed in shot put. Prescott advanced to the finals with a throw of 13.12m, which remained his best throw on the day. Prescott placed 8th overall and earned one point toward the men's team total. Goodlett placed 10th in the event with a throw of 12.70m. Gainey set a new personal best in outdoor with a throw of 10.82m, placing 20th overall.
Discus
Goodlett led the way in discus for the men's team, placing 11th overall with a personal best throw of 38.59m. Prescott finished 16th with a season best 37.01m. Shelton threw a personal best 34.85m and RaQuan Coles threw a season best 33.28m.
Jumping Events:
Long Jump
Jared Benain and Jackson McClain earned a trip to the finals in long jump. A jump of 6.79m earned Benain a 4th place finish and five points toward the men's team total. McClain finished 9th overall with a jump of 6.42m. Traveon Howell placed 16th overall with a jump of 5.65m.
Running Events:
100m
McClain narrowly missed finishing a second straight race under 11s. McClain finished in a time of 11.03s. He placed 11th overall. Ethan Lee placed 35th overall with a time of 11.59s. Jayden Lawrence sprinted to a season best 12.04s. Lawrence finished 49th overall.
200m
Lee placed 30th overall in the 200m sprint, finishing in a time of 23.63s.
400m
Elijah Swain set a new personal best in the 400m sprint, finishing in a time of 51.73. Swain placed 11th overall in the event.
400m Hurdles
Howell competed in the 400m Hurdles for the first time in his track career. Howell turned in a time of 1:04.29. Howell placed 8th overall and earned one point toward the men's team total.
1500m
Diell Mehmedi and Hunter Snyder ran strong races for the Lions. Mehmedi placed 32nd with a time of 4:31.98. Snyder finished with a time of 5:06.01 and placed 51st overall.
800m
Hensley competed in the men's 800m run. Hensley finished in a time of 2:34.36. He placed 49th overall on the day.
The Lions travel to High Point University to compete in the Vertklasse Meeting on March 31st – April 1st.
