Lions place 10th at SAC Championships
The Mars Hill men's track and field team traveled to Anderson University to compete in the South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
ANDERSON, S.C. - The Mars Hill men's track and field team traveled to Anderson University to compete in the South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Sixteen Lions qualified for the championship.
Highlights from the two-day meet:
Jumps
Jared Benain qualified in triple jump and long jump. Benain earned a trip to the finals in triple jump, placing fifth overall with a jump of 14.68m. He set a new outdoor triple jump school record. Benain placed 16th overall in long jump with a mark of 6.65m.
Jackson McClain and Traveon Howell qualified in long jump. McClain placed 24th overall with a jump of 5.94m while Howell placed 25th overall with a jump of 5.91m.
Levi Higgins qualified in high jump. Higgins placed sixth overall with a jump of 1.91m.
Throws
Justus Shelton qualified in javelin and discus. Shelton advanced to the finals in javelin, placing eighth overall with a throw of 47.05m. Shelton earned one point toward the team total. He led the way for the Lions in discus, placing 16th overall with a personal best throw of 36.97m.
Ben Goodlett qualified in shot put and discus. Goodlett placed 13th overall in shot put with a throw of 12.97m. Goodlett placed 24th in discus with a throw of 32.22m.
Prescott qualified in both hammer and shot put. Prescott placed 12th in hammer.
Distance
Blake Freeman qualified in the 5,000m run. Freeman finished with a season best 16:52.35, placing 30th overall.
Connor Cecil qualified in the open 800m run. Cecil placed 37th overall with a time of 2:18.12.
Sprints/Hurdles/Relays
McClain and Ethan Lee qualified in the 100m sprint. McClain placed 18th overall with a time of 10.74s. Lee placed 35th overall with a time of 11.31s.
Lee qualified in the 200m sprint, placing 35th overall with a time of 22.91s.
Elijah Swain qualified in the 400m sprint. Swain placed 30th overall with a time of 52.11s.
Howell qualified in the 400m hurdles. Howell placed 16th overall with a personal best 1:04.07.
McClain, Howell, Swain, and Lee competed in the 4x100m relay. The men came in eighth place overall with a time of 42.93s. They earned one point toward the team total.
The Lions placed 10th overall as a team with nine points.
