MHU records broken as Lions place fifth at BMC Championships
The Mars Hill women's swim team finished the 2021 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships in fifth place at the conclusion of Sunday's events. The team collected 389 points.
FORT MILL, S.C. - The Mars Hill women's swim team finished the 2021 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships in fifth place at the conclusion of Sunday's events. The team collected 389 points.
Saturday Recap:
Elena Massa set the school record during the 800 yard freestyle relay. During her 200 yard leg, Massa swam a time of 1:54.08. The Lions, consisting of Massa, Sydney Hnatuk, Sydney Gearhart, and Brianna Broussard, placed fifth with a time of 8:02.14 to earn 50 points.
In the 500 yard freestyle, Massa finished 18th overall with a time of 5:16.98 to add seven points for the Lions. Hnatuk placed 22nd with a time of 5:34.50 to add two more points.
Haley Horton picked up two points for the Lions in the 100 yard backstroke, swimming a time of 1:00.80. Ashley Hicks and Bailee Bolin placed 17th and 19th, respectively, in the 100 yard breaststroke, earning a combined 15 points.
Broussard, in the 200 yard butterfly, placed 14th, earning 13 points. She turned in a time of 2:17.48.
Sunday Recap:
Massa broke another school record, this time in the 100 yard freestyle, turning in a time of 52.67 for a 14th place finish and 13 points.
Horton, in the same race, finished with a time of 55.86 to pick up three points for the Lions. Gearhart added one more point for her 24th place finish.
In the 1650 yard freestyle, Hnatuk swam a time of 19:06.38, adding 13 points to the Mars Hill total. In the 200 yard backstroke, she placed 18th with a time of 2:19.35, earning seven additional points.
In the 200 yard breaststroke, Bolin placed 17th overall with a time of 3:02.38, picking up nine points.
Wrapping up the event, the team of Massa, Broussard, Horton, and Hicks placed fifth in the 400 yard freestyle with a time of 3:42.03, adding 50 points to their total.
