South Atlantic Conference releases preseason tennis polls

The South Atlantic Conference released the 2022 men's and women's preseason polls on Friday morning.

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Wingate has been voted as the 2022 South Atlantic Conference women's tennis preseason poll favorite, the league office announced today. The League's head coaches gave the Bulldogs 11 first-place votes and a total of 143 points.

Queens was voted second with one first-place vote and 135 points, while Newberry was picked third with one first-place vote and 124 points. Carson-Newman was voted in at No. 4 with 121 points, followed by Lenoir-Rhyne at No. 5 with 109 points.

Tusculum placed No. 6 with 96 points and Anderson was voted No. 7 with 95 points. Limestone took the No. 8 spot with 83 points, while Lincoln Memorial was voted No. 9 with 76 points. Catawba followed with 60 points at No. 10, Mars Hill was No. 11 with 49 points, Coker was picked No. 12 with 43 points, and UVA Wise was No. 13 with 36 points.

The SAC also announced its preseason all-conference teams. The first team doubles partners were Natasha Forrest and Hannah Price of Carson-Newman, Caity Klaassen and Viktorija Veselinova of Queens, & Anna Greer and Katie Robeson of Anderson.

Greer was named first team singles, in addition to her doubles honors. Also earning spots on the singles list were Ana Carla Resende of Carson-Newman, Judit Gonzalez Agud of Newberry, Gemma Southwick of Lenoir-Rhyne, Valentina Ascarrunz of Lincoln Memorial, and Elena Gunfaus of Wingate.

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Wingate has been picked first in the 2022 South Atlantic Conference men's tennis preseason poll, the league office announced today. The Bulldogs received 10 first-place votes from the League's head coaches with 145 total points.

Queens earned the No. 2 slot with two first-place votes and 143 points, while Tusculum and Anderson came in at No. 3 & No. 4 with 134 points and 122 points. Lenoir-Rhyne placed fifth in the poll with 112 points and Carson-Newman was voted No. 6 with 90 points. Lincoln Memorial came in at No. 7 with 85 points, followed by Limestone at No. 8 with 78 points.

Coker took the No. 9 slot with 65 points and at No. 10 was Catawba with 59 points. Newberry placed eleventh with 57 points, while Mars Hill received 47 points at No. 12 and UVA Wise rounded out the poll at No. 13 with 33 points.

In addition to the preseason poll, the SAC announced its preseason all-conference teams. Highlighting the first team were doubles partners Rhodri Atkinson and Josh Lazenby from Lenoir-Rhyne, Nemanja Subanovic and Frank Bonacia from Tusculum, and Edoardo Bottino and Edoardo Cecere of Queens.

Atkinson, Bonacia, Bottino, and Subanovic were named first team singles, in addition to their doubles honors. Also earning spots on the singles list were Yoan Roussinov of Queens and Marc Janse of Carson-Newman.
