Lions open season at Visit W-S College Kick Off
Kayla Rice sets new MHU record in Weight Throw.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's indoor track & field team kicked off their 2025-26 indoor season at the Visit Winston-Salem College Kick-Off hosted by JDL Fast Track.
"This first meet was a great success overall for the ladies, with one new school record and several personal bests," head coach Richard Clarke said about the team's performance.
New School Record
Kayla Rice kicked off her season with a big personal record and New School Record in the women's Weight Throw. Rice's throw of 13.42m broke a nine-year-old school record. Rice currently ranks second in South Atlantic Conference Standings.
Additional Meet Highlights and Personal Bests
On the Track
Alleigh Flewwellin competed in the women's 3000m run, finishing with a personal best 11:34.25
Natalie Freise ran a personal best 1:04.62 in the 400m sprint.
Jimena Montero ran an indoor best in the 200m sprint, finishing in a time of 27.93s.
Mary Malcolm ran a personal best 5:32.65 in the women's mile.
Natalee Powers ran a personal best 18:25.38 in the women's 5000m run.
In the Field
Kennadi Hale and Faith Woodard both threw personal bests in women's Weight Throw. Hale threw a PR of 12.15m. Woodard threw a PR of 11.96m.
The Lions are off for Christmas break and will resume competition January 16th-17th. They will travel a short distance down the road to Tryon, North Carolina and compete in the Tryon Winter Classic.
