Mars Hill slays Dragons for first win of season
The Mars Hill football team (1-1) defeated Virginia-Lynchburg (0-2) 50-14 Thursday night inside Meares Stadium for their first win of the season.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill football team (1-1) defeated Virginia-Lynchburg (0-2) 50-14 Thursday night inside Meares Stadium for their first win of the season.
The Lions carried a 16-0 lead into the half and led 32-0 with 3:01 remaining in the third quarter. The Dragons scored their first touchdown with 1:24 left in the stanza before the Lions answered back with a four-yard touchdown run from Chancellor Lee-Parker and a Malik Laurent 76-yard touchdown reception from Brody Whitson to build their largest lead of the night, 44-7.
Mars Hill outgained the Dragons 474-178 and racked up 21 first downs to their six. The Lions' defense was able to get into the backfield all night long, recording 10 sacks.
The Lions open South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday, September 18 when they host UVA Wise. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
