Mars Hill opens SAC Championship in ninth

HICKORY, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's outdoor track & field team sits in ninth place after day one of competition at the 2021 South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Saturday.
Ben Goodlett made his first conference finals appearance as a Lion, placing eighth in the javelin with a personal best throw of 42.9m, scoring one point for the Lions. Senior Malik Frost competed in the javelin, placing 15th with a throw of 29.77m.
Matthew Tingle ran a personal best 4:15.22 in the 1500 meter, placing 17th overall.
Senior David Elkins placed 12th in the 800 meter, running a personal best 1:59.39. Brad Barbee placed 27th with a time of 2:17.34.
Elijah Swain placed 17th in the 400 meter with a time of 54.78 while Jackson McClain competed in the 100 meter, placing 22nd with a time of 11.42s.
Ky Mann is ranked sixth after day one of the men's decathlon, racking up 2,708 points. He placed fourth in the long jump (5.88 meters) and fifth in the 400 meter with a time of 56.42. Mann will compete in the 110 meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and the 1500 meter on Sunday to close out the event.
