MARS HILL, N.C. – Dexlie Inman has been promoted to head softball coach, as announced by Director of Athletics Rick Baker.
"I want to thank President Floyd and Rick Baker for their continued support and for the opportunity to be the next Head Softball Coach," Inman stated. "Secondly, I want to thank all of the faculty and staff members here at MHU who have constantly supported me through this transition. Lastly, I want to thank my parents and family members for their constant and unwavering support. I truly would not be the woman or coach I am today without them."
Inman was named the assistant coach in the summer of 2023.
Inman took on the role as the team's infield coach and offense coach. Inman also assisted with recruiting and acted as the camp coordinator, as well as executing other duties for the program.
"We are excited for Coach Inman to lead our softball program. Her knowledge and passion for the game along with her work ethic make her a great addition to the Mars Hill family," stated Baker.
Inman spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at Gardner-Webb University where she helped develop players' skills all around the diamond, organized and executed daily practice plans, as well as conducted weekly one-on-one meetings with the student-athletes to monitor their academic workload and mental health. During her time at GW, Inman primarily served as the team's infield coach as well as assisting with the team's offense. During those two seasons, Inman helped coach a First Team All-Conference outfielder, All-Freshmen Team infielder, and Honorable Mention outfielder as well as three Big South Players of the Week.
Inman added, "I have an awesome team of young ladies who are by my side; eager, determined and ready to push the softball program to new heights. Each day we strive to make our program 1% better, create a winning culture and make our community proud."
Inman works as a camp instructor for Tier One Fast Pitch and College Coaches Skills Camp CCSC as well as serving as a private hitting and fielding instructor. In 2021, she served as the high school varsity assistant coach at her alma mater in Union, South Carolina. In 2016, Inman entered her college career after being named South Carolina Player of the Year and earning an All-American title. Inman was a four-year starter at the College of Charleston from 2016-2020 as a middle infielder. She served as captain on the team during her final two seasons (2019-20) and was named to the CAA All-Tournament team in 2019. During that year, she led the team in doubles, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and tied for second in runs scored. That same year, Inman left her mark in the record book with her doubles total ranked fourth highest in school history and walks total ranked fifth highest in school history.
In 2017, she was named the "Charleston Way Spirit Award" winner, awarded to the athlete that upholds the cultural values of the team that included integrity, gratitude, competitive spirit, unity, and pride. She graduated in 2020 with a bachelor's degree in exercise science with a minor in coaching.
"I am so thrilled and excited to have this opportunity to lead the softball program," Inman said. "Since the moment I stepped on campus, I felt at home. The environment and people of the Mars Hill community are truly amazing."
