WINGATE, N.C. - The Mars Hill softball team (21-21, 11-11 SAC) was swept by Wingate (31-17, 18-4 SAC) by scores of 4-0 and 9-2 Saturday afternoon.
GAME ONE: WU 4, MHU 0
Wingate held the Lions to just four hits on the day in the shutout victory.
The Bulldogs struck in the bottom of the second as Kaylee Hobgood plated Laney McLaurin with a RBI single, eventually proving to be the game-winning run.
A pair of sacrifice flies moved Wingate up to a three-run lead before tacking on another insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.
Hobgood and Damyia McFadden led all players with three hits apiece.
Bri Weimer led the Lions with two hits while Daci Sarver and Farley Park each recorded once apiece.
GAME TWO: WU 9, MHU 2
The Bulldogs used a six-run fifth to complete sweep.
Raelynn Kramer's two-run single down the left field line was the highlight of the Bulldogs' six-run frame.
Mars Hill opened the scoring in the bottom of the second off of a two-run double by Maia Sholter, plating Farley Park and Bri Weimer. Wingate, in the top of the third, took the 3-2 lead off of a Hannah Stevens' three-run home run.
Kaylee Hobgood once again led all players with three hits while Stevens led all players with three RBI.
Riley Waters led the Lions with two hits while Sholter and Weimer added one apiece.
The Lions close out the regular season with a crucial South Atlantic Conference doubleheader versus UVA Wise at home on Senior Day. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 19 at Ponder Field.
