Women’s Basketball Signs Three
MARS HILL, NC - The Lions' women's basketball program signed three players in the early signing period, Head Coach Jennifer Williams announced today. Kelsey Espinosa, Genice Lane, and Cadence Wilmoth have committed to compete for MHC for the 2012-13 academic year.
Kelsey Espinosa (Dripping Springs, Texas) is a 5'10" post player, who attends Dripping Springs High School. As a junior, Kelsey averaged 10 points and 10 rebounds a game. During the 2010-11 season, she helped guide her team to a successful season and earned first team All-District and was the team's MVP. She played AAU basketball for the Austin Glory. Kelsey will join the 1,000 point club this season. Williams stated, "I am thrilled that Kelsey has chosen to continue her playing career at Mars Hill College. Kelsey is one of those players who does a little bit of everything and plays hard all the time. She is a great rebounder and can score facing up and with her back to the basket. Kelsey will fit in great with our system"
Genice Lane (Winston-Salem, N.C.) is a 5'9" wing player who attends Mt. Tabor High School. As a junior, Genice averaged 12 points, six rebounds, four assists and the same number of steals per game while shooting 47% from the field. For her efforts she earned All-Conference and All-District honors. In addition, Mt. Tabor has won the conference title the past three years and posted a 26-3 record last season. Williams stated, "In this recruiting class we knew we needed an athletic guard who could defend and Genice fits that need perfectly. It's an added bonus that she is a solid scorer as well. Genice comes from a powerhouse high school program and plays for the Phoenix AAU program so winning is all she knows!"
Cadence Wilmoth (Glade Spring, Va.) is a 6'1" post, who attends Patrick Henry High School. As a junior, Cadence averaged 17 points and 10 rebounds a game. During her junior season, she helped guide her team to a second place finish in the state of Virginia. For her hard work, Cadence earned All-District, All-Region, and All- State honors. For her career, Cadence has scored almost 1,400 points and is closing in on the 1,000 rebound mark. Williams stated, "We are very excited that Cadence has chosen to continue her playing career at Mars Hill College. We have had our eye on her for several years and have been impressed with her improvement and work ethic. Cadence is a great scorer with her back to the basket and is relentless on the boards. She played AAU for the Nautilus Express with current Lion Ansley Ricker."
"We are very excited to welcome all three of these young women to our program. They will fit in great with our current team on and off the court. These student-athletes work hard in the classroom but more importantly they are great people. I love that they all come from successful high school and AAU programs, which have allowed them to compete with and against great players. Winning is a mentality and I have no doubt they will all contribute immediately to our success", ended Williams.
Mars Hill College is a NCAA Division II institution and a member of the South Atlantic Conference. The league is comprised of schools in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
