MHU places 10th at SAC Championships
HICKORY, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's outdoor track & field team competed in the South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship Wednesday, April 30th-Thursday, May 1st. Fourteen women qualified for the Championship.
The Lions finished the championship in 10th place overall with 20 combined points scored. Big highlights from the meet include several top-8 finishes and several personal bests.
Top-8 finishers
Alina Mueller set a personal best in the heptathlon with a combined score of 3,954 points. Mueller score is the 2nd best in program history. Mueller placed 6th overall, earning 3pts toward the team score. The Hep consists of seven events – the 100m Hurdles, High Jump, Shot Put, the 200m sprint, Long Jump, Javelin, and the 800m run. Mueller earned 625 points in the hurdles with a time of 16.75s, 566 points in high jump with a jump of 1.45m, 464 points in Shot Put with a throw of 9m, 632 points in the 200m with a personal best 27.99s, 532 points in Long Jump with a jump of 4.90m, 517 points in Javelin with a throw of 32.11m, and 618 points in the 800m run with a time of 2:36.16.
Mueller competed in the open Javelin as well, placing 4th overall with a throw of 32.00m. Mueller earned 5pts toward the team score.
Cierra Williams placed 5th in Discus with a throw of 37.17m and 5th in Shot Put with a throw of 11.87m. Williams earned 4pts in Discus and 4pts in Shot Put.
Haley Eddinger earned 3pts for the team with a 5th place finish in Pole Vault. Eddinger vaulted 3.00m.
Simone Giggetts earned a trip to the finals in the 100m Hurdles with an 8th place finish in the prelims on day one. Giggetts placed 8th overall in the finals on day two with a time of 15.01s. Giggetts earned 1pt for the team.

In the Field
Jimena Montero competed in the heptathlon. Montero placed 10th overall with a combined score of 2,985 points. Montero earned 287 points in the hurdles with a time of 20.18s, 379 points in High Jump with a jump of 1.27m, 441 points in shot put with a throw of 8.64m, 674 points in the 200m with a time of 27.46s, 406 points in Long Jump with a personal best jump of 4.41m, 317 points in Javelin with a throw of 21.49m, and 481 points in the 800m run with a personal best of 2:48.36.
Montero competed in the Javelin as well, placing 21st overall with a throw of 20.35m.
La'Miya Blake placed 15th in Discus with a throw of 30.73m and 15th in Shot Put with a mark of 10.67m.
Maya Adams placed 17th in Javelin with a throw of 22.97m.
Amaya Casiano placed 28th in Long Jump with a mark of 4.17m.
On the Track
Natalee Powers placed 15th in 800m run with a time of 2:24.83.
Grace Adams placed 14th in the 5000m run with a personal best 18:32.17.
Hannah Frazer ran a season best 19:33.46 in the 5000m run, placing 25th overall.
Mary Malcolm placed 27th in the 5000m run with a time of 19:55.05.
Lindsey Jenkins placed 13th in the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 12:50.77.
Fernanda Osuna ran a personal best 13:39.48 in the 3000m Steeplechase. Osuna placed 16th overall.
Alina Mueller and Simone Giggetts competed in the 400m Hurdles. Mueller placed 16th with a time of 1:09.47 and Giggetts placed 19th with a time of 1:15.50.
