Lions Sweep SAC Weekly Awards
ROCK HILL, S.C.-- Mars Hill's Toni Cole was named SAC Volleyball Player of the Week, while teammate Courtney Worthington was named SAC Volleyball Specialist of the Week the league announced Monday.
ROCK HILL, S.C.-- Mars Hill's Toni Cole was named SAC Volleyball Player of the Week, while teammate Courtney Worthington was named SAC Volleyball Specialist of the Week the league announced Monday.
The duo helped MHU extend their winning-streak to four with four-set victories over Queens and Catawba. Cole hit .533 over the two matches, averaging 4.50 kills and 1.12 digs per set. Worthington averaged 12.62 assists and 1.75 digs per set. Mars Hill is 6-4 overall this season and 4-2 in conference matches. The Lions are also a perfect 4-0 in matches at Stanford Arena.
Cole opened the week with 16 kills and two digs while hitting .500 in Tuesday night's victory over Queens. The senior added 20 kills on an impressive .562 hitting percentage in Saturday's victory over Catawba. She added seven digs in the match.
Cole ranks second in the SAC with a .367 hitting percentage and is sixth in kills per set (3.41). She also ranks sixth in the league in points and points per set.
Worthington tied a Mars Hill four-set record with 62 assists in the Lions' victory over Catawba Saturday. She added eight digs in the match. Worthington recorded 39 assists and six digs in the victory over Queens.
The freshman ranks sixth in the SAC with 8.35 assists per set. That is best among SAC freshmen by over three assists per set.
Mars Hill will look to extend their winning-streak to five when they travel to Newberry for a 7:00 p.m. match Tuesday evening.
