Lions Fall to Queens

CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- Mars Hill's volleyball team was swept by Queens in a South Atlantic Conference match Tuesday evening at the Levine Center.
The Royals won in straight sets, 25-20, 25-21 and 25-22. Keri Kemp's 16 kills paced Queens offensively. Kemp added 10 digs for the double-double. Mars Hill's Maggie Murphy had 19 digs, which moved her into a tie atop the school's all-time career digs list with 2,216 career digs. Murphy has reached that total in 138 fewer sets than the previous record holder, Nicole Silver. Mars Hill falls to 12-8 overall and 10-6 in SAC matches. Queens improves to 9-9 overall, 9-7 in conference matches.
Marissa Wixson paced MHU offensively with 13 kills and added 10 digs. The senior now has six double-doubles this season. MaryKate Griffin notched seven kills. The Lions hit .138 in the match.
Anna Gibbs notched 15 kills for the Royals. Taylor Riley set the Queens offensive with 45 assists and added 15 digs. Brittany Barrena and Elizabeth Bialkowski notched eight kills-apiece as QU hit .241 in the match.
Mars Hill will conclude their four-match road trip Saturday at Catawba at 5:00 p.m.
