Mars Hill junior Brayhan Yrio has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week.
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Mars Hill junior Brayhan Yrio has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week, the league announced today. The Villers-Les-Nancy, France native takes home the weekly honor for the first time in his Lion career.
"This is a good accomplishment for Brayhan," head coach Gary Hamel said. "He's worked hard on adjusting to the American college game. It's a good team award as well."
Yrio scored two goals in Mars Hill's 3-2, double-overtime win over Coker on Saturday. Yrio tied the match at 1-1 on his first goal of the season in the 22nd minute. Yrio's second goal of the match was the game-winner as he took a pass from Amine Merdjett and beat Cobra goalkeeper Kyndle Cobb with less than a minute remaining in the period to give the Lions their fifth SAC win of 2014. Yrio is the second Lion to win the award the season, with junior goalkeeper Chris Mitchell claiming the honor on September 29th.
Mars Hill will play their final non-conference game of 2014 on Wednesday afternoon at Meares Stadium against UNC Pembroke at 5 p.m.
