Lions placed 11th in SAC preseason poll

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Queens has been picked first in the 2019 South Atlantic Conference men's tennis preseason poll, the league office announced today. The Royals received six first-place votes from the League's head coaches with 106 total points.

Wingate earned the No. 2 slot with five first-place votes and 105 points, while Anderson came in at No. 3 with 83 points. Lincoln Memorial placed fourth in the poll with 78 points and Tusculum was voted No. 5 with 74 points. Newberry came in at No. 6 with 66 points, followed by Lenoir-Rhyne at No. 7 with 62 points.

Catawba took the No. 8 slot with 50 points and at No. 9 was Coker with 39 points. Carson-Newman placed tenth with 32 points, while Mars Hill received 20 points at No. 11.

In addition to the preseason poll, the SAC announced its preseason all-conference teams. Highlighting the first team were doubles partners Hamed Gandouz and Shane O'Dea of Lenoir-Rhyne, Julian Bosch and Joel Dunlap of Queens and Agustin Aran Martin and Sebastian Meum of Queens.

Aran Martin and Bosch of Queens were named first team singles, in addition to their doubles honors. Also earning spots on the singles list were Daniel Belsito and Josep Canyadell of Wingate, Edison Ambarzumjan of Newberry and Ignacio Bidegain of Anderson.

The 2019 South Atlantic Conference Men's Tennis season gets underway on Friday, Feb. 1. The 2019 SAC Men's Tennis Championship is slated for April 16, 18-19 with quarterfinals at campus sites and the semifinals and finals at the Rock Hill Tennis Center in Rock Hill, S.C.
