Mars Hill defeats Piedmont to open 2023 slate
The Mars Hill women's swim team defeated Piedmont College by a score of 112-91 Saturday afternoon inside Harrell Pool.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's swim team defeated Piedmont College by a score of 112-91 Saturday afternoon inside Harrell Pool.
Alba Silva claimed victory in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 25.96 and the 100 yard freestyle in 58.19 to earn 18 total points.
In the 200 yard IM, Maria Arrabal took first with a time of 2:22.97. She also won 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.45.
Maggie Anders took home the 1,000 yard freestyle with a time of 12:05.93 to earn nine points for Mars Hill. Cassidy Hull placed second with a time of 12:26.09 to earn an additional four points.
Sydney Gearhart placed first in the 200 yard freestyle while Leah Hinsley placed second. Gearhart turned in a time of 2:07.48 while Hinsley swam a race of 2:13.83. The two combined for 13 points in the event.
Gearhart also won the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:48.55 while Hull placed second with a time of 6:00.72.
Sarah Ellen Johnson claimed first in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:06.93.
The group of Gearhart, Silva, Arrabal, and Hinsley took first in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a mark of 1:49.95, garnering 11 points for the team.

The Lions return to the pool on Saturday, January 14 when they take on Emory & Henry on the road. The first event is set for a 2 p.m. start.
