MHU defeated by L-R
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill football team (3-5, 2-4 SAC) was defeated by Lenoir-Rhyne (5-4, 4-3 SAC) by a score of 45-0 Saturday afternoon.
The Bears used special teams to great effect in the first half, opening the contest with an 87-yard kickoff return for the first score of the contest. Midway through the second quarter, Songa Yates returned a punt 70 yards to put the Bears up 21-0.
Lenoir-Rhyne continued to roll offensively, as Khamon Robinson threw two more touchdowns in the second half, ending the day with three.
The Bears totaled 298 yards of offense to Mars Hill's 230, with 182 coming through the air.
JR Martin went 11-of-22 for 88 yards while Jon Gullette led all players with 103 rushing yards on 17 carries. Javonte Sherman led the team with four receptions for 54 yards.
Steven Reid led the Lions defensively with seven tackles followed by six apiece from Sakarri Morrison, Isaac Weaver, Caden Hilemon, William Marzolf, and Russell Barnett.
The Lions take to the road on Saturday, November 1 when they face Tusculum. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
