Track Teams Set Records at Gamecock Indoor Open
The Mars Hill track and field teams traveled to Columbia on Wednesday for the Gamecock Indoor Open.
COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Mars Hill track and field teams traveled to Columbia on Wednesday for the Gamecock Indoor Open #2. The Lions had several strong performances on both teams.
Junior Jessica Viscussi won the women's 1 Mile Run with a time of 6:28.65 and set a new school record in the indoor pole vault with a height of 7.5 feet. Aiyana Chin broke the school record in the Weight Throw with a distance of 10.44 meters (34 feet, 3 inches), besting the previous school record by over two feet. Freshman Megan Smith earned the win in the women's 3000 Meter Run with a time of 11:18.27, with teammates Shelby Robinson and Carey Shields recording personal bests in the event. Faith Trammell and Savannah Hulbert finished in second and third place in the 800 Meter Run.
Tre'von Gee recorded a sixth place finish in the Men's 55 Meter Hurdles with a time of 7.86 seconds. Gee finished 14th out of 43 runners in the Men's 55 Meter Dash, crossing the finish line with a time of 6.71 seconds.
The track teams return to action at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem next weekend.
