Men’s Soccer Beats King, 5-0
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Lions' men's soccer team beat King College, 5-0 Saturday afternoon in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. It was the Lions' eighth shutout of the season. MHC improved to 11-4-1 on the season while the Tornados fell to 5-9-2 on the year.
Before the match, Mars Hill recognized their seven senior players. Rury Caulfield, Troy Chavez, Zac Leeman, Giovanni Malnati, Carlos Oyaga, Isaiah Schafer and Brandon Tardioli played their last regular season match in Meares Stadium.
Tardioli wasted little time getting MHC on the board.
Twenty-three seconds into the match he found the back of the net
from 25 yards out. The score was unassisted. That was all the
scoring the first half would see.
Isaiah Schafer gave the Lions a 2-0 advantage at the 47:47 mark off
a rebound. The goal was unassisted. Less than 10 minutes later
(56:36), Felipe Ferraro scored another goal off a rebound to make
the score, 3-0 in favor of the home team. Andres Diaz scored his
first goal of the season on a cross from Nathaniel Enos to give MHC
a 4-0 lead at the 73:06 mark. Tardioli ended the scoring on a
header on a pass from Craig Carwood at the 84:54 mark to make the
final tally, 5-0 in favor of the Lions.
MHC outshot King, 28-5. The Lions edged the Tornados, 3-1 in corner kicks. Zac Scott played 79:25 in goal for MHC and made three saves. Phillip Dabney played the final 10:35 in goal for the Lions. Patrick Milfeld played the entire 90 minutes in goal for King and made eight saves.
The Lions should be the three seed in the Food Lion SAC Men's Soccer Tournament and host the number six seed on Tuesday, November 1. Match time will be determined at a later time.
