Athletic Highlights: August 28th – September 3rd
Men's Soccer: Mars Hill opened the season up with back-to-back wins, taking down Mount Olive in their home-opener, 2-1, and defeating North Greenville on the road in dramatic fashion by a score of 3-2. Peter Plougmand scored three goals and assisted on the game-winning marker by Jorge Perez Prada versus North Greenville. Braxton Robinson scored the third goal in Saturday's win. The Lions host Converse on Wednesday, September 6 at 7:30 p.m. inside Meares Stadium.
Women's Soccer: The Lions defeated Lees-McRae in their season-opener when Marianne Ross broke the 0-0 deadlock in the 73rd minute. Camryn Miller made three saves for the clean sheet. Mars Hill hosts Converse at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, September 6 inside Meares Stadium.
Volleyball: At the conclusion of the second annual Tony Fontanelle Memorial Volleyball Tournament, the Lions came away with a 2-1 record. Mars Hill defeated Bluefield State on Friday afternoon and split Saturday's slate, defeating Shorter, but falling to King. Jada Cannon led the team with 27 kills while Katilyn Grant added 25 kills and a tournament-high 10 blocks. Mars Hill will face Lees-McRae on Friday, September 8 at King University at 4:30 p.m. before taking on the Tornado on their home floor the following day at 2 p.m.
Men's Cross Country: Mars Hill finished third at the Bruins XC Night Classic. Freshmen Kelvin Kiprop and Gabriel Hunt placed in the top 10 with Kiprop finishing third and Hunt in sixth. Mars Hill next runs at the Covered Bridge Open on Friday, September 15.
Women's Cross Country: The Lions placed third at the Bruins XC Night Classic. Hannah Frazer placed third overall with a time of 16:29.9 while Lindsey Jenkins finished seventh with a time of 16:58.5. Mars Hill next runs at the Covered Bridge Open on Friday, September 15.
