Athletic Highlights: September 18th – September 24th
Football: The Mars Hill football team advanced to 3-0 Saturday, defeating Barton, 16-14, in a clash between the South Atlantic Conference division leaders. Lon Teachey hit 3-of-4 field goal attempts, including three straight and the eventual game-winner in the fourth. His performance earned him the WePlayed Sports & SAC Special Teams Player of the Week. The Lions take on Limestone at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
Men's Soccer: The Lions went 0-0-2 this past week, drawing 2-2 with both Tusculum and Lenoir-Rhyne. Aimar Banuls and Jorge Perez Prada scored against the Pioneers while Diego Fernandez and Peter Plougmand netted the two MHU goals versus Lenoir-Rhyne. The Lions host Carson-Newman on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. and Catawba on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
Women's Soccer: Mars Hill went 0-2-0 this past week, falling to Tusculum, 2-0, on Wednesday, and Lenoir-Rhyne, 4-0, on Saturday. The Lions host Carson-Newman on Wednesday night at 5 p.m. and Catawba Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
Volleyball: The Lions went 1-1 this past week, falling to Tusculum in a five-set thriller, but downing the Cobras of Coker on Friday night in four sets. Katilyn Grant posted back-to-back 11 kill outings, Laela Jimenez racked up 51 digs, and Jordan Schmucker collected 67 assists. Mars Hill takes on Carson-Newman on the road Friday night at 6 p.m.
Men's Golf: Mars Hill placed eighth in their first tournament of the 2023-24 season, taking part in The Fincastle Intercollegiate. John Moss placed 16th overall.
Women's Golf: The Lions took first at The Fincastle Intercollegiate. Chelsea Baker placed third overall. They take part in the Newberry Women's Golf Invitational on Monday and Tuesday of this week.
