Athletic Highlights: October 9th – October 15th
Football: The Mars Hill football team defeated Emory & Henry on the road 24-14 to advance to 5-1 on the year, 4-1 in conference. JR Martin threw for two touchdowns and ran for one. Landon Honeycutt led the defense with 11 tackles. Mars Hill takes to the road on Saturday, October 21 when they clash with Carson-Newman in South Atlantic Conference Mountain Division play. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
Men's Soccer: The Lions went 1-0-1 this past week, drawing with Anderson, 0-0, but routing Emory & Henry Sunday afternoon, 8-1. Peter Plougmand tied the MHU record for four goals in a game while Thomas Bertelsen added two. Jorge Perez Prada scored his fourth while adding a pair of assists and Kai Stolp scored his first collegiate goal. Diego Fernandez collected two assists. Mars Hill takes on two non-conference opponents this week, beginning with Southern Wesleyan on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. and wrapping up their week versus USC Aiken on Saturday, October 21 at 6 p.m.
Women's Soccer: Mars Hill went 1-0-1 this past week, drawing with Anderson, 1-1, Wednesday night and defeating Emory & Henry in a crucial South Atlantic Conference contest Sunday afternoon on the road. Alyssa Kuhl scored the Lions' lone goal versus the Trojans while Bailey Whitehead-Price netted the game-winner just 35 seconds into the game against the Wasps. The Lions take on Tampa on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. in non-conference play at home inside the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.
Volleyball: The Lions went 0-2 this past week, falling to Limestone in four sets on the road and to Anderson in straight sets at home. Mars Hill will play two non-conference contests this week, travelling to Converse on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. match and then hosting Winston-Salem on Saturday, October 21 at 2 p.m. inside Chambers Gymnasium.
Men's Tennis: Mars Hill opened their season with a 6-1 defeat at the hands of Belmont Abbey on Friday the 13th. Sasha Molina picked up the lone Lions' singles' victory.
Women's Tennis: The Lions dropped their season-opener, 5-2, versus Belmont Abbey Friday afternoon. Elana Mackey and Amalie Anderson won their respective flights.
Swimming: Mars Hill will host two meets this weekend, kicking off with Friday night versus Lenoir-Rhyne. The meet is set for a 6 p.m. start. The following day, Saturday the 21st, Mars Hill will welcome Emory & Henry to Harrell Pool. The meet is set for an 11 a.m. start.
Cross Country: The Lions will race at the 2023 South Atlantic Conference Championships on Saturday, October 21st, held in Lenoir, North Carolina.
