Athletic Highlights: October 16th – October 22nd
Football: The Mars Hill football team defeated Carson-Newman in a thriller on the road, 21-17. JR Martin accounted for three touchdowns and was named the South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week. Landon Honeycutt led the defense with 13 tackles. Mars Hill returns home on Saturday, October 28 when they host UVA Wise at 1 p.m.
Men's Soccer: Mars Hill went 1-1-0 this week, falling to Southern Wesleyan by a score of 3-1 with Braxton Robinson scoring the lone goal. On Saturday, a dramatic three-goal second half capped off the Lions' comeback win, 4-2, over USC Aiken. Peter Plougmand netted two goals and added two assists. Mars Hill wraps up their home schedule on Senior Day, Friday, October 27 when they host Newberry at 7:30 p.m.
Women's Soccer: The Lions drew with Tampa on Thursday night, 0-0. Camryn Miller made a game-saving penalty kick save en route to her sixth shutout of the season. The Lions host Bluefield State on Monday afternoon and wrap up their home schedule on Senior Day, Friday, October 27 at 5 p.m.
Volleyball: Mars Hill defeated Converse and Winston-Salem State, both in straight sets, in non-conference action. Laela Jimenez was named the South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week. The Lions take on Anderson on Tuesday, October 24 on the road before hosting Coker and UVA Wise on Friday, October 27 and Saturday, October 28, respectively. First serve times for the weekend slate are 6 p.m. and 2 p.m.
Men's Swimming: The Lions defeated both Lenoir-Rhyne and Emory & Henry in their first dual meets of the season. They host Carson-Newman on Friday, October 27 at 6 p.m. and King & Lees-McRae at 11 a.m. inside Harrell Pool.
Women's Swimming: Mars Hill opened their dual meet schedule, falling to both Lenoir-Rhyne and Emory & Henry by narrow margins. They host Carson-Newman on Friday, October 27 at 6 p.m. and King & Lees-McRae at 11 a.m. inside Harrell Pool.
Men's Cross Country: The Lions placed 9th at the South Atlantic Conference Championships Saturday afternoon. Kelvin Kiprop was the top placing Lion, finishing 41st overall.
Women's Cross Country: Mars Hill placed 11th at the South Atlantic Conference Championships Saturday afternoon. Lindsey Jenkins was the top placing Lion, finishing 50th overall.
Men's Golf: Mars Hill competes in the Lenoir-Rhyne Fall Invitational, held over Monday, October 23 and Tuesday, October 24.
Women's Golf: The Lions will compete in the Buzz Off Invitational on Saturday, October 28 and Sunday, October 29.
Men's Basketball: Mars Hill will take on VCU in exhibition play on Saturday, October 28 with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
