Lions sweep Converse Round Robin

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Mars Hill softball team (13-3) swept both Fayetteville State and Converse this past weekend, completing their second 4-0 weekend of the season.
GAME ONE: MHU 5, FSU 4
Mars Hill's offense was led by Sadie Cecil's three-run home run in the first. Camryn Sterling smashed a solo shot to left field in the top of the sixth, putting Mars Hill up 4-3. Bri Weimer's RBI single to right field was the game-winning run for Mars Hill.
Weimer led all players with three hits followed by two apiece from Alexis Nanney, Daci Sarver, and Sterling.
Karly Gentry earned the win, throwing 2.1 innings, allowing one run on one hit.
GAME TWO: MHU 9, CON 2
The Lions' offense continued to roll Saturday afternoon, plating nine runs, including a five-run sixth.
Both Sadie Cecil and Sydney Hodges collected RBI singles in the frame while Daci Sarver put the Lions up by seven with a two-run single.
Cecil opened the scoring with a two-run double down the left field line in the first inning. Hodges followed with a RBI single. In the bottom of the second, Maia Sholter put the Lions up 4-2 with a RBI single up the middle, plating Bri Weimer.
Hodges led all players with three hits, adding two RBI. Cecil led all players with three RBI. Sholter, Cecil, and Sara Rexrode ended the day with two hits apiece.
Vivian Stone was credited with the win, allowing just three hits in 4.2 innings, striking out three.
GAME THREE: MHU 10, FSU 2 - 5 Innings
Maia Sholter's two home run day led the Lions' to their third straight win of the weekend. Sholter went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run and a solo shot later in the contest.
Alexis Nanney, Sara Rexrode, and Camryn Sterling each had two hits on the day with the Lions totalling 14 in the contest.
Karly Gentry picked up her second win of the weekend, allowing two runs on one hit, striking out four in five innings.
GAME FOUR: MHU 12, CON 3
Mars Hill upped their offense performance again, racking up 12 runs on 15 hits to complete the weekend sweep.
Sadie Cecil went 3-for-3 while drawing two walks, reaching base safely in all five plate appearances. Maia Sholter, Sara Rexrode, Leah Grimes, and Daci Sarver each recorded two hits on the day.
Rexrode led all players with three RBI.
Kamryn Akins remains unblemished, running her record to 6-0 on the year. She allowed three runs on eight hits in five innings, striking out four.
Blyth Freeman threw one scoreless inning to cap off the dominant pitching peformance for the Lions' staff.
Mars Hill returns to action on Wednesday, February 25 when they host North Greenville. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. inside Ponder Field.
