MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (13-15-1, 9-8-1 SAC) swept UVA Wise (6-21, 3-15 SAC), taking all three games of the South Atlantic Conference series.
GAME ONE: MHU 10, WISE 5
The Lions managed only four hits in the contest, however, two were grand slams in the game one win.
Tied at one entering the bottom of the second, with the bases loaded, Alejandro Aguilar gave the Lions their first lead of the contest with grand slam over the left field fence.
UVA Wise pulled within one after plating runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Peyton Starkey's RBI groundout in the sixth allowed Evan Ashe to score, putting the Lions up 6-4.
A scoreless seventh and top of the eighth led to the Lions' second grand slam of the day, coming off the bat of Yeriel Pastrana.
Both Aguilar and Pastrana collected four RBI to lead all players.
Austin Kutz threw 4.1 innings in the start, striking out five. In 4.2 innings, Reid Withers struck out 11 batters, allowing just one run on five hits for the win.
GAME TWO: MHU 9, WISE 5
The Lions scored seven unanswered runs to clinch the series in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.
Mars Hill trailed 5-2 entering the bottom of the fifth. Following Chapel Matson's RBI single to cut the deficit to two, Gavyn Miller's three-run home run put the Lions back up, 6-5, for their second lead of the game.
In the bottom of the seventh, Peyton Starkey plated Evan Ashe with a RBI single and later scored, along with Terick Bumgarner, off of Yeriel Pastrana's two-run double to center.
Starkey led all players with three hits while Miller led all players with three RBI. Matson and Pastrana each added two RBI apiece.
Brady Stephens picked up the win, throwing 4.2 innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out six for the win.
GAME THREE: MHU 3, WISE 0
Mars Hill completed the sweep, shutting out the Cavaliers 3-0 in Saturday's game two.
The Lions opened the scoring in the bottom of the fourth as Terick Bumgarner plated Chapel Matson and Gavyn Miller with a single to left field.
Matson, in the bottom of the fifth, plated the insurance run with a RBI single to center, allowing Yeriel Pastrana to score. Matson led all players with two hits in the game.
Jacob Davis picked up his fourth win of the year, striking out five.
Mars Hill faces Lander on Tuesday, March 24 in non-conference play. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. on the road.
