Lions fall to Eagles in weekend series
Mars Hill takes wild game two, falls late in games one and two.

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (20-21-1, 15-10-1 SAC) dropped their weekend series versus Carson-Newman (23-17, 13-14 SAC) two games to one.
GAME ONE: C-N 5, MHU 3
Despite blowing an early 3-0 lead, the Eagles rallied in the top of the ninth to steal game one from the Lions.
Tied at three in the top of the ninth, Bradley Soto Diaz's RBI triple proved to be the game-winning play for the Eagles. Soto Diaz later scored off of a sacrifice fly from Sebastian Rodriguez as the insurance marker.
The Eagles plated three in the top of the second, highlighted by Logan Floyd's RBI single to center.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Lions pulled within one off of Alejandro Aguilar's two-run home run, plating Yeriel Pastrana in the process. The Lions tied the game in the bottom of the sixth as Pastrana scored off of a squeeze bunt from Evan Ashe.
Pastrana, Aguilar, and Terick Bumgarner led the Lions with two hits apiece.
GAME TWO: MHU 12, C-N 8
Mars Hill's solid starting pitching, along with hot bats, led them to a game two win, despite a late charge from the Eagles.
Carson-Newman scored eight runs in the final two innings of play, but Mars Hill's offense kept them at bay.
The Lions led 5-0 after three, highlighted by Terick Bumgarner's two-run triple in the third. In the fourth, Chapel Matson also plated a run with a triple to right field. Following Evan Ashe's RBI double in the fifth that put the Lions up 7-0, Mars Hill tacked on two more runs in the seventh as Bumgarner picked up his third RBI of the game with a single through the left side.
In the bottom of the eighth, after allowing five runs, the Lions tacked on three more to build their lead back to seven as both Matson and Bumgarner collected one more RBI apiece.
Bumgarner led all players with four RBI followed by two apiece from Matson and Gavyn Miller. Matson led all players with three hits.
Collin Chappel threw 6.0 scoreless frames, striking out two and allowing just four hits for the win.
GAME THREE: C-N 7, MHU 6
A solo home run in the top of the seventh was the difference maker for Carson-Newman as they erased a three-run deficit to steal the series.
Trailing 6-3 entering the top of the sixth, Logan Floyd's three-run home run tied the game at six.
After allowing the first two runs in the top of the first, the Lions responded with a five-run bottom half of the frame, highlighted by Terick Bumgarner's second two-run triple on the day. Both Yeriel Pastrana and Evan Ashe recorded RBI singles in the frame while Gavyn Miller's sacrifice fly opened the scoring for Mars Hill, plating Mel Rubiera.
In the bottom of the fourth, Alejandro Aguilar went yard for the second time in the series, a solo shot over the center field wall.
Cole Nathan led all players with three hits while Floyd led all players with three RBI. The trio of Rubiera, Pastrana, and Peyton Starkey led the Lions with two hits apiece.
Mars Hill closes out their non-conference road slate on Wednesday, April 15 when they face King. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
