GREENWOOD, S.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (2-1) fell to Lander (2-1) in non-conference action Thursday evening.
Mars Hill led 37-35 going into the fourth and went on an 8-0 run to open the quarter, scoring 10 of the first 12 points of the frame. Lander responded in the final 4:21, scoring 11 unanswered points to come from behind and steal a win from the Lions, 48-47, in the waning seconds.
The Lions led 21-20 after 20 minutes of play, led by the duo of Tateyonia Harris and Naja Ngongba. Harris led the Lions with 11 points and 12 rebounds on the night while Ngongba, in her season debut, netted eight points and pulled down five rebounds.
Maddie Gillie added six points and nine rebounds while Amiya Porter and Jadiyah Peoples led the team with four assists and four steals, respectively.
Mars Hill returns to Chambers Gymnasium on Saturday, November 16 when they host North Greenville in their final non-conference game of the fall. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
