Mars Hill falls to Anderson in tight SAC clash
Tateyoina Harris collects 11th double-double with season-high 22 points.
ANDERSON, S.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (14-11, 11-10 SAC) was defeated by Anderson (17-9, 13-7 SAC) by a score of 84-76 Saturday afternoon on the road.
The first quarter saw the biggest gap between the two teams. Anderson outscored Mars Hill 25-14. The Trojans hit 64 percent of their shots in the opening 10 minutes with Diamond McDowell leading all players with nine points.
The Lions, in the second quarter, cut into the Anderson lead, outscoring them 21-18. Daisy Gale led the squad with seven points while Tateyoina Harris pulled down six rebounds, adding six points.
For the second consecutive frame, the Lions netted 21 points with Aaliyah El's nine points leading the way. Both Gale and Elyseia Brown pulled down three rebounds. The Lions shot a team-high 50 percent from the floor in the quarter.
The fourth quarter saw both teams shot 50 percent from the floor as Anderson held off the Lions, matching their production with 21 points in the frame. McDowell led the team with seven points. Harris led all players with 10 points followed by El's seven.
El led the Lions with 24 points, adding seven rebounds. Harris scored a season-high 22 points and collected 17 rebounds, tying her season-high. The contest marked her 11th double-double of the season. Gale ended the contest with nine points, adding six rebounds.
Mars Hill returns home on Wednesday, February 19 when they face Tusculum. Tipoff inside Chambers Gymnasium is set for 5:30 p.m.
