Dominant fourth quarter leads Lions to comeback win over E&H
Daisy Gale and Tateyoina Harris lead Lions' fourth quarter comeback.
MEADOWVIEW, Va. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (11-6, 8-5 SAC) rallied in the fourth, defeating Emory & Henry (5-13, 0-12 SAC) by a score of 75-70 Wednesday night on the road.
Mars Hill trailed 53-45 entering the final 10 minutes of play. The Lions' hot shooting, hitting 71 percent of their shots, led the team past Emory & Henry to complete the season sweep. Both Tateyoina Harris and Daisy Gale netted 10 points apiece, going a combined 7-for-9 from the floor. Harris and Maddie Gillie led the team with three rebounds while Gale collected a team-high four assists in the frame.
The teams were tied at 16 after one. Gillie and Aaliyah El led the Lions with four points apiece. Emma Santoro paced the Wasps' offense with seven points. Mars Hill took the lead entering the half, outscoring Emory & Henry 19-14 with El's six points leading the way. Elyseia Brown added five points as the team hit six of their nine shot attempts.
Emory & Henry responded in the third quarter, outscoring the Lions 23-10. Breanna Yarber led all players with nine points while Santoro added six. The team shot over 57 percent in the penultimate quarter of play.
El led the Lions with her eighth 20-point game of the year. Both Harris and Gale netted 16 apiece. Harris led the team with seven rebounds while Gale led all players with seven assists.
Mars Hill returns to action on Saturday, January 18 when they face Newberry on the road. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
