Lions dominate in final home game of 2024
Mars Hill sets school record with 45 made baskets in 108-59 win.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (8-4, 5-3 SAC) rolled Emory & Henry (5-8, 0-7 SAC) by a score of 108-59 Saturday afternoon inside Chambers Gymnasium.
The Lions put up 30 points in the first quarter as Landyn Stewart and Tateyoina Harris each netted six apiece. Lauren Arnold added four while, along with Elyseia Brown, leading the team with three rebounds in the frame.
Mars Hill continued to roll in the second, outscoring the Wasps 25-11. Maddie Gillie hit three threes and totalled 11 points in the quarter. The trio of Harris, Naja Ngongba, and Aaliyah El had two assists apiece. The Lions shot over 61 percent from the floor.
Both teams netted 20 points apiece in the third. Tatum Bowen led Mars Hill with six points, hitting two three-pointers. Ngongba and El added four apiece.
Closing out the emphatic victory, Mars Hill put up a game-high 33 points in the fourth, hitting six threes. Gillie added another nine points while El led all players with 10.
El, for the third straight game, led the team with 22 points, hitting 10-of-14 shots from the floor. Gillie led all players with six made threes, adding 22 points. The duo of Bowen and Harris each added 12 points apiece while Jadyiah Peoples ended the night with 10 points. Arnold led the team with nine rebounds and five assists.
The Lions shot over 54 percent from the floor, downing 13 threes on the night. Mars Hill set a new school record with 45 made baskets.
Mars Hill closes out the 2024 portion of their season on the road on Wednesday, December 18 when they face UVA Wise at 5:30 p.m.
