Mars Hill starts strong, falls to Trojans
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (4-16, 1-13 SAC) was defeated by Anderson (9-11, 5-9 SAC) by a score of 81-68 Friday afternoon.
Mars Hill dominated the first quarter, outscoring Anderson 19-8, with Jadein Haynes's seven points and four rebounds leading the way. They held the Trojans to a 16 percent shooting percentage while they hit 54 percent of their shots.
However, in the second, a 14-2 run through the first half of the quarter for Anderson shifted momentum. Ciara Harris led the Trojans with seven points while Khiara Flugence added six off the bench.
Harris carried over her offensive momentum, netting a game-high nine points in the third as the Trojans went 11-of-21 from the floor to outscore Mars Hill 27-13. Jadyiah Peoples led the Lions with four points.
In the fourth, Felesia Ondongo led all players with 11 points, hitting three threes in the frame. Shyann McCummings and Adrianna Gullette each added six points apiece.
Harris led all players with 21 points while Ashley Hill led all Trojans with seven rebounds.
Ondongo led the Lions with 17 points followed by 14 from Gullette. Haynes led all players with 10 rebounds, adding seven points.
The Lions host Emory & Henry on Wednesday, February 4 at 5:30 p.m. inside Chambers Gymnasium.
