MARS HILL, N.C. – Melissa Scichilone has been promoted to head women's lacrosse coach, as announced by Director of Athletics Rick Baker.
"Melissa has done a great job for MHU women's lacrosse the past three seasons as our assistant coach. We are fortunate to already have her in place to take over the program as the new head coach," Baker stated. "We are excited about the future of the program."
Scichilone joined Mars Hill in the fall of 2022 as the assistant coach.
She graduated from Lander University in Spring 2022 with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology.
During her time at Lander, Scichilone was a two-year starter, appearing in all 28 games between the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
A dynamic two-way midfielder, she recorded 73 points (62 goals, 11 assists) and 173 draw controls over those two seasons. She served as team captain for the 2021–2022 campaign and was recognized as the GSC Defensive Player of the Week, named to the All-GSC Team, and selected for the All-Tournament Team in 2022. That same year, she participated in the IWLCA Senior All-Star Game, representing the North Team. Scichilone also earned GSC All-Academic honors and was named to the Spring 2022 Honor Roll.
Prior to Lander, she began her collegiate lacrosse career at Nyack College in Nyack, New York, where she pursued psychology. As a freshman in 2017, she earned CACC Rookie of the Year honors and served as team captain for two seasons. Between 2018 and 2020, she tallied 268 draw controls, ranking second in program history. She was also a two-time All-CACC Second Team selection (2018, 2019).
Scichilone said, "I am very excited to take on this new role with the women's lacrosse team. I give all the glory to God, as well as the endless support from those around me."
